Choosing a Dog to Fit Your Lifestyle

Choosing a dog to fit your lifestyle can be important for you and your new pet. Different breeds have varying levels of activity, exercise needs, and temperaments. Some dogs are known for being social and good with families while other are known to be protective and prefer to be the only pet. All of these factors need to be considered when you choose a dog. It is also important to consider the size of the animal. Every dog has its own personality, so it is important to spend some time with the dog before committing to buy it.

If you are an active person then it makes sense to get a dog that will be able to keep up and be active with you. Many large breeds like Labradors, German Shepards, and larger hounds thrive in an environment of activity; they love to play and be outdoors. These dogs are big enough to keep up with you and some will even wear you out first! If you cannot exercise the dog often then don't get a large breed. If they are not exercised then they become restless, destructive, and unhealthy. If you travel a lot then a big dog can be a hindrance as they are hard to bring along.

If you are disabled, older, or can't be extremely active then a small breed is perfect. Breeds like the Maltese, Beagle, Basset Hound, and many terriers are great for those who have a small space. These little dogs can be active and playful, but they can be played with in the house. Smaller breeds usually weigh less than fifteen pounds, which makes them perfect for those who can't control a bigger dog. These dogs are easy to take along on vacations and even around town. Usually these dogs require regular grooming and attention.

Getting a dog is a choice that takes research and should not be done on a whim. They take time, patience, and are a major commitment. Choose wisely and enjoy your new furry friend!
